Quilted Northern is the First National Toilet Paper Brand to Utilize Recyclable Paper Packaging
Quilted Northern is the First National Toilet Paper Brand to Utilize Recyclable Paper Packaging
Quilted Northern becomes the first national toilet paper brand to utilize recyclable paper packaging in major retailers. The Georgia-Pacific consumer products brand decided to incorporate its new recyclable paper packaging for its best selling packs of Ultra Strong and Soft product lines. The product's six mega packs and amazon case packs will both feature paper packaging, a transition that the company believes will eliminate an estimated 500,000 pounds of plastic waste each year. The company has been working diligently since 2020 to develop their new curbside recyclable paper packaging format, a task which had proven to be very difficult due to the various factors that had to be taken into consideration. The company had to make sure that the packaging could withstand manufacturing, supply chain, and retail conditions. At the same time the paper packaging had the meet all of the requirements to be easily recycled by consumers. After a tough development stage the company was able to produce recyclable paper packaging that is tear and puncture resistant and while not completely waterproof like their LDPE shrink film, the paper packaging is sufficiently water resistant to be able to protect the product in certain scenarios such as when being carried out of a store during a rainstorm. Strongest Paper in the World to be Used as Sustainable Packaging by Coca-Cola
Strongest Paper in the World to be Used as Sustainable Packaging by Coca-Cola
Global packaging leader Mondi teams up with Coca Cola HBC Austria to provide a sustainable alternative to conventional plastic shrink wrap. Usually, Coca Cola uses shrink wrap sleeves to wrap around their 1.5 liter sodas. Moreover, the soft drinks are usually wrapped individually. Mondi’s new paper packaging sleeve solution, Hug-IT, warps around entire packs of 1.5 liter soft drinks. Hug-IT boasts high tensile strength and impressive stretchability. The new paper sleeve solution is able to safely hold the soft drink packs throughout their transportation journey from the factory site, to the retailer, and finally to the consumer’s home. Hug-IT is currently the only paper sleave solution that offers such impressive capabilities. The new packaging solution will be utilized on 1.5- Liter PET multipacks of Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite, and Mezzo Mix soft drink brands. The multipacks will be sold at retailer stores throughout Austria. Hug-IT is based on Mondi’s Advantage SpringPack Plus, which was crowned as the strongest paper in the world by Guinness World Records. Advantage SpringPack Plus is 100% Kraft paper made from FSC® Certified wood that was responsibly sourced. The material is readily recyclable in existing paper recycling streams, paper being one of the materials with the highest recycling rates in Europe. With this solution Coca Cola is able to provide consumers in Austria with a sustainable packaging option that can be conveniently recycled using existing recycling infrastructure. Learn more here.
