Dow and Bolloré have teamed up to create a circular barrier shrink film
Dow circular polymers are used to make Bolloré's OXBTEC RCB barrier shrink film. These polymers are produced using a feedstock made entirely of plastic waste and developed using recycling techniques. This is a significant advancement because it allows difficult-to-recycle plastics to be recycled and, more significantly, utilized safely and effectively in food-contact applications rather than being disposed of in landfills or incinerated. Furthermore, as compared to the burning of non-recycled plastics, improved recycling techniques are projected to save roughly 1.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide every tonne of plastics recycled.
This month, the film will be released in the United Kingdom, where it will be marketed exclusively by Yorkshire Packaging Systems (YPS), a long-time Bolloré collaborator. It will be used in the packaging of entire bird goods by its customer Cranswick, a meat and poultry provider. YPS has made a commitment to its clients to provide only completely recyclable, On-Pack Recycling Label (OPRL) approved flexible films, while also concentrating on growing its portfolio of films containing recycled material.
