Russian Researchers Develop Film to Prevent Solar Panels From Overheating
Russian Researchers Develop Film to Prevent Solar Panels From Overheating
Researchers at South Ural State University (SUSU) in Chelyabinsk, Russia, have developed a new technique to prevent solar panels from overheating. They developed a special holographic, prismatic film using unspecified rare earth metals that reflect infrared radiation while transmitting the visible radiation. After reflecting the infrared radiation, the prisms in the film then concentrate the visible radiation on the solar cell regardless of the angle of the sun, increasing the efficiency of the solar cell. The inexpensive film can be used on all different kinds of solar panels and has received a patent for the technology. You can read more about the new film here.

Toppan Develops New Line of Virusweeper™ Film Packaging
Toppan has developed new film packaging as part of their “SMART LIFE-VALUE Packaging” line that adds antiviral and antibacterial properties to its printed materials. Virusweeper™ packaging prevents certain viruses and bacteria from multiplying on the surface and have been tested to have measurements similar to ISO 21702 (antiviral) and ISO 22196 (antibacterial). Its antiviral and antibacterial properties have also been certified by Japan’s Society of International sustaining growth for Antimicrobial Articles (SIAA). Sales of the new film packaging is scheduled to start in April. This Medical Plastics News article gives additional information about the film.
