Sustainable Child Resistant Pouch is the First of its Kind in Food Packaging
Sustainable Child Resistant Pouch is the First of its Kind in Food Packaging
Packaging firms Fresh Lock and Accredo Packaging collaborate to develop a stand up pouch with 50% post-consumer recycled content and a 25% PCR child resistant closure. The new pouch is the first of its kind flexible child resistant pouch that contains 50% PCR content and that is food packaging approved. The pouch combines Fresh Lock’s Child-Guard slider technology and the AccredoFlex recycled material in both the film and zipper closure. Jonathan Quinn, vice president of marketing and sustainability at API Group and Accredo Packaging, mentioned that "Collaboration is crucial in driving the circular economy forward, so we are thrilled to join forces with the Fresh-Lock team at Presto to introduce this flexible stand-up pouch," and that “The future of the circular economy hinges on incorporating recycled content and being able to do so across all consumer packaged goods markets.” Learn more about this topic here.

Coca Cola Experiments with Label-Less Packaging for the First Time
Coca Cola Experiments with Label-Less Packaging for the First Time
Sprite goes naked for now, as Coca-Cola decides to strip the labels from their Sprite rPET bottles in the company’s first pilot test of label-less packaging. The move is only temporary but for now the company's Sprite and Sprite zero 500ml on the go bottles will feature an embossed logo on the front and laser-engraved product and nutritional information on the back. While the labels used previously were fully recyclable Coca Cola looked to further simplify the recyclability of the packaging by going label-less. This simplifies the recycling process by eliminating the need to separate the label from the bottle and it also reduces the amount of packaging material used. The new packaging will be available at eight Tesco Express Stores in London, Manchester, Brighton, and Bristol from January to March 2024. Vice president of marketing for Coca‑Cola Europe, Javier Meza said that "the test is a milestone for the industry. It’s the first time these two technologies have been used in a pilot globally, where a Coca‑Cola product will appear in a label-less, single-unit bottle sold in-store. Although the design change may sound simple, this is a big shift from a marketing perspective. This trial could contribute to longer-term changes to the way brands communicate with their consumers.” Learn more here.
